"The buttons don't work!" - Enabling Macros in Excel
Article The default settings on Excel may not allow QOFcountdown to function. This is because QOFcountdown uses built in macros, and the default security settings on Excel are set to disable running of macros.

Follow these steps before your first use of Excel with QOFcountdown. (You will not need to repeat this procedure every time, but you will need to repeat it once on each workstation on which you wish to use QOFcountdown). The steps are slightly different for Excel 2000, 2002 (XP) or 2003, and Excel 2007.

Excel 2000, 2002 (XP) or 2003

• Open Excel
• Go to Menu / Tools / Macro / Security
• Set Security Level to Medium
• Click OK to exit the menu
• Exit Excel
• Reopen Excel

Whilst Medium setting allows you to run macros, it does not allow any macros to run automatically and you will be asked whether you agree to run macros, and so this is still a safe level of security. (With the setting at High, you cannot run any macros even if you want to and so QOFcountdown cannot work).

After changing this setting, whenever you open QOFcountdown you should see a dialog box asking if you agree to enable macros – say yes to this. (For other documents you should say no, unless you know that document requires macros and you trust its source).

If you are using Excel 2007 please download and read the relevant section in the Manual - the instructions are slightly different.
